How do I collect the DNA samples?

Once you have received your test kit, simply follow the instructions included in your kit to collect your cheek (buccal) swab sample.

When will I receive my kit?

What will my test report look like?

Your test report will provide a high-level breakdown of your biogeographical ancestry in percentage terms, as it relates to the following population groups across the world:

• European – individuals from Europe
• African – individuals with roots in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa or North Africa
• Asian – South/Central Asian and East Asian populations (including Korean, China, Japan and Pacific Islanders)
• American – composed of people who inhabit North, South and Central America
• Middle Eastern – individuals from the Middle East and North Africa

Why does the test report focus on specific populations?

The populations referred to in the test report are known as the ‘founding populations’ and are included in the test report for conciseness and practicality.

For example, ‘European’ population indicates people of collective ‘proto-European’ ancestry, which includes populations residing within the European continent, but may also encompass the Middle East and South Asia.

Our definition of this population is based on evolutionary and anthropologic studies which show that these peoples’ common ancestor ascended from anatomically modern humans who travelled out of Africa approximately 50,000 years ago to inhabit the Fertile Crescent area of the Middle East

Today, this includes Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Syria, and the territory between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.

As a result, people living in Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia (India) share common ancestral markers dating back 10-50,000 years ago. For example, South Asian Indians are found to have considerable, but lower, levels of ‘European’ markers while Middle Easterners display an elevated level of ‘European’ markers.
