The Twins Days Festival is the world’s largest annual gathering of twins (and other multiples) and is held in the appropriately named city of Twinsburg in Ohio. The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Twins Days 2018 – Two-Player Mode’ where all twins were encouraged to dress up as their favorite video or arcade game characters. However, four attendees this week chose wedding costumes instead as identical twin sisters Brittany and Briana Deane married identical twin brothers Josh and Jeremy Slayers.
The brothers and sisters had met at the Twins Days Festival last year and were engaged for 6 months. Jeremy and Josh proposed to Brittany and Briana at Twin Lakes State Park in Virginia on 2nd February. The date had been specifically picked because it abbreviates to 2-2.
The fairytale wedding ceremony (themed ‘Twice Upon a Time’) was presided over by identical twin ministers and the two couples wore matching outfits. Both sets of siblings had always dreamed of marrying identical twins.
“It’s really been a fairytale come true”, said Briana. “Marrying twins is something that’s very important to us. Even when we were little girls I can remember being in kindergarten, knowing that that is what we saw for ourselves.”
Marrying twins was so important to Josh and Jeremy that they vowed they wouldn’t say ‘I do’ unless they fell in love with identical sisters.
“It’s hard when you’re dating someone and they don’t understand the twin bond”, said Briana. You can experience a lot of challenges when you date ‘singletons’, she said.
The couples now plan to live and raise their children all together in one house.
What are identical twins?
Identical twins are known as monozygotic, which means they were formed in utero from a single fertilized egg that went on to split into separate embryos. Monozygotic twins have the same DNA. Twin DNA testing (also known as zygosity testing) is the only way to establish whether multiple children from the same birth are genetically identical or not.
